Graffiato

Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 October 2011

Graffiato – New Zealand’s premier street art festival featuring a collection of our best and most recognised street artists.

Graffiato saw 18 of New Zealand’s top street artists come to Taupō over one weekend and leave an indelible mark on the town. These artists have exhibited and painted all over the world and with a number of naturalised kiwis amongst them, they brought a truly international flavour to Taupō.

It was the first time such a high calibre group of artists had been invited to work on a single project, with a focus firmly and foremost on the art. Over one weekend the work of these artists transformed the public spaces of Taupō, providing a great experience for both the artists to come together on a town-wide collaboration, and for the public to witness it all unfold right in front of them.

The event unfolded over Labour Weekend, (Oct 21, 22 and 23 2011) and was based in Taupō. As a celebration of street art and graffiti, it provided the district with a collection of New Zealand street art from some of the country’s best artists.

Dispelling the myth around those who paint public walls, we got to see the artists for what they are; passionate and dedicated members of our communities who contribute freely their time and talent to beautify our public spaces.

Pick up a map from town, or download one and walk the streets - Make sure you take this opportunity to see art from some of New Zealand’s most talented street artists.
